Some of the news, all of the time

Here's the lineup for this year's Tuesdays in the Park concerts

June 10th  Freshwater

Four post-moderns playing raucous dance music, pop-inspired arrangements of folksongs, and lots of free-spirited step dancing. Budd Greenman, Nellie Schrantz, Nic Gareiss, and Bill Wiegandt all grew up in mid Michigan. There, nurtured by the musicians in the local old time and Celtic music circles, they began to absorb the traditions associated with fiddle music and percussive dancing. Bill learned folksongs from his father. Budd traveled wit his mother to fiddle jamborees, Nic learned his first dance steps by watching his parents in their kitchen, and Nellie attended Irish sessions and feisanna. As FRESHWATER, their mission is to use the music they love to connect with people of all ages and especially young people from traditional music.

June 24th Delilah DeWylde & The Lost Boys

Call it integrity, going against the grain, being niche-y, whatever. Delilah Dewylde and the Lost Boys march to the country shuffle of a bygone era; before country was on FM radio, before country artists had personal trainers, and most certainly, before country sounded like rock and roll with fiddle. Mixing self penned songs with old country hits (and unknown gems) by such artists as Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Ernest Tubb, and Buck Owens to name a few, Delilah and the Lost Boys come out on stage looking and sounding like a 45 year step back in time. Dressed to the nines in the tradition of pre-color television country singers and musicians, donning matching western suits and playing the finest vintage musical instruments in the finest old school way.

July 8th  Zion Lion

Zion Lion Reggae Band is the "baddest" band to hit Kalamazoo.    Zion Lion is a combination of several bands from the Kalamazoo area who crossed each others path along the way and decided to form what we believe to be the right mix of reggae, zouk, soukous, and afo-latin influences.

July 22nd  Truth in Jazz

Fronted by West Michigan's legendary drummer, Tim Froncek, this group of 16 of the area's top musicians plays charts from the classic era of the big bands, up to today's best charts from the hottest writers. The band was organized by Dave Collee, Ed Spier, and Matt Lintula, who wanted a group able to play pro-level big band literature, and have fun doing it! We have assembled a great bunch of area musicians who enjoy the challenge of playing great charts in a large ensemble.

Their names are what and why and when. And how and where and who.
