Some of the news, all of the time

THIRDSTONE NEWS AND NOTES:

Greetin's all...

So.... we did manage to have a few whole days of Spring-like warmth. sO,  we now know it's at least possible to unstick the thermostat from the nether realms of cold....Still, it 'tain't zactly lookin' like a trend jus' yet....Guess we'll see...  OK, on with the NEWS:

THIRDSTONE NEWS

Spring is always a busy time 'round the ol' ThirdStone Ranchito. There's more Spring cleaning and painting and such to get done before the real fun begins.

New art works are arriving for the coming busy season and our "welcome the season" group show later this month promises to be our biggest and best in a long long while. There'll be several new artists joining the mix too. I'm going to keep you in suspense on them a bit longer though you can see a fresh pile of those works here now if you're inclined to stop in for a visit to Funnville.....

A "RE-RUN" FROM AN EARLIER ISSUE - MORE NEW STUFF A'HAPPENIN' HERE/ NEW CONSIGNMENTS WANTED:
By May, you'll see the launch of our expanded vintage, art resale, antiques and funkjunk departments, but if you visit before then, you'll find that lots of new stuff is already sneaking in the back door as we speak. When we do officially launch the season, I'll be taking on some select consignments of cool vintage stuff, deco, 50's and mid-century furniture and, for the first time ever, some special artworks that you may wish to put up for adoption from your own collections...  Our brand new online art and decor site (DecorFabu.com) is now up and running and is currently be setup to market such things to the whole planet as well as locally from our showroom here so, if you have any of the above that you think is special, send me an email to Brucemonster@gmail.com telling me what you have. If it sounds like what I'm after, we'll arrange to get it here and ready for sale to the world.

ThirdStone main website update:
Yep, I'm gettin' closer though there's still lots to be done. Soon, all of the new artist pages will be up, all with fresh works and most available for online sales. Since this is turning out to be a very time-consuming effort (with so many new works to add), I've decided to postpone our next online-only-show until mid-April when the new artist pages will all be ready and loaded. Meanwhile, our most recent online show continues and you can see that at: http://www.thirdstoneartgallery.com/online-show2-group.html.

AND...
This Spring will finally see the launch of a few new ThirdStone "Departments"... A lot more musical instruments and gear is on the way and our new book and music sections will be up and running soon as well. I'll have more info on that in an upcoming issue as well as a rundown of some cool and interesting events that are slated.

Looking to buy: (or, in some cases, willing to consign):
As part of our expanding mini-universe, I'm looking to buy Heywood - Wakefield furniture pieces, nice mid-century furnishings and musical gear and musical instruments of all sorts If you or anyone you know has such things they'd like to put up for adoption, let me know.  I'm also occasionally buying a few other items including vintage lamps and furniture. Show me whatcha got!

Looking for "aftermarket" artworks too... Do YOU own art you'd like to sell??
We now have joined a network of art dealers specializing in "reselling" selected art works from private collections. I'm currently preparing our first group of offerings for that effort and am still seeking some additional great works. If there are items in your collection you'd like to have "adopted" to help make room on your walls for new art or, to raise some "fundage", get in touch While one of my interests is to "recycle" past works from our own ThirdStone artists, I'm also interested in finding quality works from many other artists as well. Email me info/images of what you have or, bring them to the gallery on fridays thru sundays.

WANTED: WE NEED BOOKSHELVES AND OTHER SHELVING OR DISPLAY UNITS
Various sizes/types needed to set up our new new book, vintage and music departments. Let me know whatcha got!

KANDU INDUSTRIES INVITING GUESTS, VOLUNTEERS AND POSSIBLE SITES TO TOUR
From our friend Reka jellema:
Hi, friends of Thirdstone! My name is Reka Jellema and I work for Kandu, Inc. in Holland. Kandu is a nonprofit that creates opportunities for individuals with employment barriers. At our brand new site at 102 W. Eighth St., we focus on career exploration, skills acquisition & development, and community integration. Our programming is for adults who have physical and/or developmental disabilities and who have jobs, either at Kandu or off-site, or are exploring job opportunities and wish to increase their knowledge of the community. We believe that as members of the community, we have a responsibility to interact within our community. We do this through volunteerism, touring places, and welcoming guest speakers to our facility to share experiences with us. We are actively seeking individuals willing to come to Kandu's 8th St. site and speak on a volunteer basis. We are also willing to travel to art galleries or artists' studios to learn from you. Whether you represent a gallery, or can give a tour of sculptures in Saugatuck, or if you're an artist who could share about your life and work, or if you're an art collector who could show us your collection and talk about why you choose what you choose, or if you operate an organic farm, or a coffee shop or restaurant, we are open to whomever feels they have some knowledge they could share with us. If you're interested and would like to hear more about this opportunity, please call me at (616) 796-6727 or you can email me at ejellema@kandu.org. To quote Joel M., one of our participants, "When speakers come or when we tour a place, we feel like we're connected to the community at large."

INFORMATION ON DUNES PETITION DRIVE FROM OUR FRIEND DAVID SWAN:
We are circulating a petition to support Saugatuck Township Officials in upholding the current R-4 zoning. The more signatures on this petition, especially signatures of Township taxpayers, the more convinced the Saugatuck Township Officials will be that they have the backup of their constituency in maintaining low density for this precious landscape. Would you please 1) sign the petition 2) get your friends and neighbors to sign the petition. The petition can be signed and submitted online as well: http://saugatuckdunescoastalalliance.com/petition-4-15-2008.html. You can also make additional copies of the petition from there.

In addition we are circulating a questionnaire, which will help us gain insight into the community's knowledge of and feelings about these issues. Would you fill out the questionnaire & either mail it back to us, or complete it online at http://saugatuckdunescoastalalliance.com/questionform.html & submit it? Please tell others about the questionnaire so we will have good participation & perspective on the communities' way of thinking on this.

Attached are talking points which provide a little more prospective on the need to protect & preserve the landscape at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River and the Ox-Bow Lagoon. Below is a suggested script. I do know several people that have just gone out & talked with their neighbors just with what they know in their heads & their hearts, & they easily came home with 10 signatures. You can do as well or better.
Deadline May 10, 2008. Please get all petitions & questionnaires back to us online or mailed to SDCA, POB 1013, Saugatuck MI 49453

SCRIPT:
"I'm ____________________, your neighbor, and I am a volunteer for the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance.

We are concerned about protecting and preserving our dunes and other natural resources here in the Saugatuck area. I have a petition for you to sign if you would like to join in communicating to the Township Board our desire to enforce existing laws that protect our natural resources. We have the laws to protect our natural resources, but it will take informed and active citizens to be sure that the laws are enforced. I also have a survey, which will help us gain insight into the community's knowledge of and feelings about these issues."

You don't need to convince anyone, or turn those opposed into supporters. You are just gathering the existing support & perhaps informing the uninformed.
